動物由来RNAウイルスの複製と病原性を中心に研究を行っている。現在の研究対象は、インフルエンザウイルスとボルナウイルスである。また、内在性ウイルスの研究から、宿主とウイルス共進化に関する研究も行っている。教育に関しては、大学院生への教育を中心に、独立した研究能力を身につけさせることを心がけている。

I am conducting research on animal RNA viruses, especially, influenza viruses and bornaviruses. In addition, I am doing research about coevolution between host and viruses by using endogenous viruses. As for education, I hope to help graduate students develop independent research skills in the bioscience fiels.

Studies on RNA viruses (bornavirus and influenza virus). Analysis of endogenous viruses. Development of Virus vectors.
研究概要
(日本語)
マイナス鎖RNAウイルスであるボルナウイルスとインフルエンザウイルスの研究を中心に行っている。ボルナウイルスでは、病原性ならびに細胞核における持続感染のメカニズムを明らかにするとともに、我々の研究グループが発見した内在性ボルナウイルス因子であるEBLNの機能と内在化の意義について解析を行っている。また、ボルナウイルスを用いた新規RNAウイルスベクターの開発を進めている。一方、インフルエンザウイルス研究では、感染初期における宿主応答を明らかにするための詳細な解析を行っている。

The researches carried out in this group are focused on RNA viruses, especially negative strand RNA viruses replicating in the cell nucleus, such as bornavirus and influenza virus. All our projects aim to understand the fundamental mechanisms of the replication and pathogenesis of the viruses. The understanding the biological significance of the endogenous element of bornavirus nucleoprotein (EBLN) in mammalian genomes is one of the main focuses of bornavirus researches.
