Yousuke Yamaoka was born on September 1, 1976, in Fukuoka, Japan. He received his BSc in 2003 and PhD in 2008 from Kyoto University under the supervision of Professor Yoshiji Takemoto. As a graduate, he investigated radical reaction and organocayalysis. In 2008, he transferred to the University of Chicago and joined the laboratory of Professor Hisashi Yamamoto as a postdoctral fellow. His research in Chicago included the 1,5-aldol reaction using super silyl chemistry. Currently he is a assistant proffesor in the laboratory of Professor Kiyosei Takasu.
