Overview of the research

実際に社会で発生している多種多様な火災と向き合い,その中でも特に甚大な影響をもたらし対応策が急務な火災に焦点を絞り,問題解決を指向した基礎的および応用的研究を進める。そのために,建築や建築火災安全工学の枠にとらわれず,自由で幅広い視点と分野横断的なアプローチを重視する。近年の主要な研究は,巨大地震や巨大津波、豪雨などの自然災害に誘発される大規模火災の性状と火災リスクの制御であり,理論・実験・調査による研究を通して,災害リスク軽減や社会のレジリエンス向上に貢献する。

Dr. Nishino’s research interests are to develop computational models for predicting the behavior and impact of natural hazard triggered large outdoor fires including earthquake fires and tsunami fires, to propose rigorous methods for quantitatively assessing the fire risk, and to present recommendations for reducing the fire risk. He conducts his research with an interdisciplinary approach without being bound by the field of building fire safety engineering. He is hoping that the research results will be widely used in practical applications for disaster risk management and effectively contribute to disaster risk reduction and resilience enhancement.
