物理化学の観点から固体表面とその吸着分子を対象とした研究を行っている。走査トンネル顕微鏡(STM)を用いて分子の運動や反応をひとつずつ可視化することで、固体表面で進行する化学過程を原子レベルで理解することを目標としている。大学院生と一緒に実験をしながら考え、議論する中で学生の自主性を育てる教育を目指している。学部の講義では定性的で直観的な理解を重要視した内容を心がけている。

I am studying adsorption and reaction of molecules on solid surfaces from the viewpoint of physical chemistry. Using STM, I visualize individual molecules on the surface for the purpose of elucidating the mechainsm of catalytic reactions. I keep in mind to discuss with the graduate students during the experiments and to promote independence of them. In the lecture for undergraduate students, I am trying to talk simply and qualitatively to help them understand physical chemistry as intuitively as possible.

金属や半導体の表面に吸着した分子を対象とした、物理化学実験を行っている。表面における化学反応を分子・原子レベルで解明することで、触媒のメカニズムを理解することを目的としている。さらに1つの分子を操作してその運動や反応を制御する研究も進めている。

I am studying adsorption and reactions of molecules on solid surfaces, aiming at understanding catalytic processes occurring across the surfaces. Furthermore, I am trying to manipulate single molecules on the surface to control their dynamics and reactions.
