発生生物学・分子生物学を研究している。教育に関しては、現在に至るまでの研究史を教える事により、将来発展するであろう研究の方向性を予測できるよう に、学生を指導している。知識を社会に還元することに関しては、特許訴訟に関する学術的助言を製薬会社に行って来た。学内では各種委員会に所属し、大学の円滑な運営に貢献している。

I have been studying developmental biology and molecular biology. As for education, I teach the history of developmental biology so that students can predict the future direction of the field. I also have been trying to contribute to the local society. So far, I have given suggestions on a patent trial to a pharmaceutical company. Furthermore, I take part in several committees and work diligently toward the improvement of the environment of the university.

Overview of the research
(Japanese)
頚部神経堤細胞の神経管からの遊走、分化機構の研究。頚部神経堤細胞は神経管背側から離脱、遊走し、胸腺、心臓弁、筋肉などの頚部の重要な 器官に分化する。この過程では細胞の正確な移動経路選択と分化誘導が必要であり、その機構をマウス、ニワトリ胚を用いて研究している。

Studies on the migration/differentiation mechanisms of the cranial neural crest cells. Cranial neural crest cells delaminate from the dorsal side of the developing neural tube, migrate into peripherals and differentiate into various important organs such as thymus, heart valves, and cranial muscles, etc. During the embryonic development, the neural crest cells should find proper migration paths and interact with other tissues for correct differentiation. I have been studying on the mechanisms of these processes using mouse and chick embryos.
