修士課程を修了後、21年間に渡り、農林水産省(現 独立行政法人)の研究所において、ハダニ類とその天敵であるカブリダニ類の生態および遺伝的変異の研究に取り組んできた。京都大学へ移動後も同様の研究を継続し、現在に至っている。生物としてのダニ類およびそれを取り巻く環境ならびに生物間相互作用に関する基礎研究ならびにそれらの知見を害虫管理へ応用することにも関心が高い。最近では、ハダニにおける薬剤抵抗性発達機構と、植物ダニ類への太陽光紫外線による生物影響がその生態に及ぼす影響、紫外線の農業への利用について高い関心を持っている。

Overview of the research
(Japanese)
農業害虫であるハダニ類の環境ストレスや生物間相互作用への適応機構の解析し、それらの進化機構の解明と害虫管理への応用を目指して研究を進めている。最近では、太陽光紫外線による損傷に注目し、ダニ類の忌避行動や生理的保護機構の種間差異の分析を進め、寄主植物上の群集構造への影響を検討している。また、経済のグローバル化に伴う薬剤抵抗性遺伝子の国家間での移動や地域的拡散機構について分子遺伝学的解析を行っている。
