I am conducting research on identification new biomarkers for autoimmune diseases, including autoantibodies and/or autoantigens, and their translating them into clinical practice. Among autoimmune diseases, my subspeciality is idiopathic inflammatory myopathy and its associated interstitial lung disease. I am engaged in the investigation on their pathophysiology and new therapeutic targets.

抗MDA5抗体陽性皮膚筋炎は、多発性筋炎/皮膚筋炎(PM/DM)の中でも最も予後不良な一群であり、特に急速進行性間質性肺炎を合併するリスクが高い。しかし治療は未だ確立していない。本疾患の病態には単球やマクロファージの活性化が示唆されているが未だ明らかではなく、本疾患症例の末梢血・病変組織中に存在するリンパ球分画やサイトカイン・ケモカイン関連分子の発現を検討し、病態解明と新規治療法開発を探求している。

Anti-MDA5 is associated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease and one of the most important prognostic factor in PM/DM patients. However, therapeutic strategy for the disease have not been established. In anti-MDA5-positive DM, excessive activation of monocyte or macrophage has been suggested, but it remains to be proved. We investigate the lymphocyte fraction and expression of molecules which are associated with cytokines and chemokines to elucidate the pathophysiology and therapeutic strategy in anti-MDA5-positive DM with ILD.
