Overview of the research

今後、環境負荷の低い社会を実現するために、自然エネルギーを効率よく利用するための様々な技術開発が必要である。その技術には、自然エネルギーの余剰電力を利用した、水を電解して水素を生成する水電解技術、余剰電力を貯蔵するリチウムイオン二次電池などの蓄電デバイス、また水電解により生成した水素を電気エネルギーに変換する燃料電池などの様々な電気化学デバイスが重要である。これらの電気化学デバイスの中で起こる現象を解明するために、放射光X線を用いたコンピュータ断層撮影(CT)法による解析を適用して、より高性能なデバイスを開発するための研究を行っている。放射光X線を用いたCT法は、高い空間分能、時間分解能を持ち非破壊でデバイス内部の現象を3次元で可視化できる。電気化学デバイス内部で起こるミクロな物質移動、化学状態変化などの現象を解明して新規材料の開発や電気化学デバイスの高性能化に貢献する研究を行っている。
