We aim to understand molecular mechanisms of immunosenescence that underlie the incidence of age-related diseases, with a particular focus on senescence-associated T (SA-T) cells and a potent regulator, CD153.

加齢に伴う免疫システムの変化(免疫老化)は老化関連疾患の発生頻度を増加させる主要因のひとつであるが、そのメカニズムは不明である。私たちはこれまで、免疫老化に深く関与する老化関連T(SA-T)細胞を同定し、この細胞がSLEをはじめとする様々な疾患の発症・増悪に関与することを示してきた。現在はさらに、SA-T細胞が発現するCD153分子に着目して免疫老化メカニズムの解明と老化関連疾患の治療薬開発に貢献することを目指している。

Immune system aging (immunosenescence) underlie the development of age-related diseases such as inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancer, but the precise mechanism is not understood. We previously identified a unique CD4 T cell subpopulation that plays a profound role in immunesenescence and termed them senescence-associated T (SA-T) cells. SA-T cells express particular cell surface proteins (PD-1, CD153) and produce inflammatory cytokines (OPN), which potentially contribute to the pathogenesis. We aim to clarify the molecular mechanism of SA-T cell regulation using genetic/biochemical approaches, in vitro cell culture systems, and genetically modified mice to develop novel therapeutic drugs, with a particular focus on a role of CD153.
