研究概要
(日本語)
高齢化社会の到来に伴い運動器の機能維持は重要な課題である。特に軟骨は重要な器官である。軟骨は運動器・骨格の原基であり、自己修復能に乏しい組織であるからである。そのため、軟骨の障害は骨格の変形や運動障害を引き起こす。本研究において、iPS細胞技術を用い軟骨の発生と恒常性の維持を理解するとともに、軟骨疾患の再生治療と創薬への応用を目指した研究を行っている。

A common problem with age is disease and degeneration of the musculoskeletal tissues. This concern is growing in aging societies like Japan. Cartilage is especially susceptible because it is primordial tissue and has poor regenerative properties. Its damage is associated with skeletal dysplasia and disorders. Through this research program, we are analyzing the development and homeostasis of cartilage and using this information to conduct regenerative medicine and drug discovery using iPS cells technologies.
