Mathematical and computational studies for biological phenomena.
研究概要
(日本語)
数理科学や計算科学などの理論的方法を用いて、分子・細胞レベルの様々な生命現象の解明を進めている。主な研究テーマは、遺伝子調節ネットワークや化学反応系などの、複雑な生命システムのダイナミクスや機能の解析。形態形成のような時空間ダイナミクスや進化モデルも研究している。近年は特に、生体分子相互作用ネットワークの構造から、システムの動的振る舞いを決定する数理理論「構造理論」を開発し、これらの数理的展開と実際の生命システムへの適用に力を入れている。実験生物学者との共同研究を積極的に進め、生命現象の背後にある本質的な原理を明らかにしている。

I have studied many biological phenomena at molecular or cellular levels using mathematical methods. My research topics include dynamics of gene regulatory networks, chemical reaction networks, pattern formations in development, and some evolutional modelings. My recent major achievements are developing "structural theories for network systems", by which important aspects of dynamical properties of complex systems are determined from topologies of the networks alone. I have promoted many collaboration projects with experimental biologists to obtain fundamental understanding for the mechanisms governing real biological systems.
