A research to elucidate molecular mechanisms of synaptic Aβ production in Alzheimer’s disease
研究概要

近年の研究の成果により、アルツハイマー病のより早期の段階で生じる海馬過興奮が注目されている。アミロイドβ蛋白(Aβ)は神経活動に伴ってシナプスで産生、放出されるため、シナプスの過活動はアルツハイマー病におけるAβ沈着を抑制するための治療標的になり得る。現在、神経活動に伴うシナプスAβ産生の分子機構の解明をテーマに研究を進めている。さらに、AD患者に併存するてんかん発作の病態意義について着目し、脳波を用いた新規脳機能ADバイオマーカーの探索研究にも取り組んでいる。

Recent studies shed light on hippocampal network hyperactivity as a very early event in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. Since amyloid-β protein (Aβ) is produced and released locally at synapses in an activity-dependent manner, synaptic hyperactivity is considered as one of the promising therapeutic targets to prevent Aβ deposition in AD. Thus, my current interest in basic research is directed to molecular mechanisms regulating activity-dependent synaptic Aβ production. In addition, a clinical research is setting up to search for a novel brain functional biomarker using EEG, since my attention is paid to comorbidity of epileptic seizure in AD patients.
