1981年農林水産省採用農業技術研究所物理統計部。1987年科学技術庁在外研究員としてEC研究所勤務。農業研究センター、国際農林水産業研究センターを経て、1997年農業環境技術研究所大気生態研究室長。2006年東京大学農学生命科学研究科教授。2007年京都大学農学研究科教授。北斎の生き様と富岳三十六景に傾倒する。バッハの新鮮なパワーをこよなく愛す。アートな人生を送ろうと決心するも、ままならず。現在、アートな授業にチャレンジしている。

Overview of your research

大気圏Atmosphereと生物圏Biosphereの相互作用に関する研究を行っている。例えば、地球温暖化が環境に与える影響を、早期検出するための研究を、チベットをフィールドとして展開している。また、近年花粉症で問題となっているスギ花粉や、遺伝子組換え体作物の花粉が、どのように拡散するかについて、大気生物学的視点から研究している。このほか、植生による気候緩和機能の評価や、逆に気候変動が植物生育に与える影響など、植生と局地気象の関係などを調べている。
