Overview of the research

 胚性幹細胞研究分野ではヒトES細胞の医療応用を目指した基盤研究を行っている。これまでに5株のヒトES細胞株を樹立しうち3株は2004年3月から、2株は2009年4月から分配を行っている。これまでに50件以上の研究計画に対して細胞株を分配し多くの研究成果が上げられている。また、未分化維持や細胞分化の分子機構の解析の他、安全性の高い培養法の開発などの将来の医療応用において不可欠の技術開発研究をおこなっている。2018年5月には日本で始めて臨床研究に使用可能なヒトES細胞株の樹立に成功した。

Human ES cell lines are considered to have great potential of ES cells in medical research and application such as cell transplantation therapy and drug discovery. We established human ES cell lines at a high efficiency and analyzed their characters in detail. We derived 5 ES cell lines, named KhES-1, KhES-2, KhES-3, KhES-4 and KhES-5, are distributed to over 50 research projects in Japan. We are also performing researches on molecular mechanisms of self-renewal and differentiation of human ES cells, and developing techniques for genetic manipulation of hES cells. In 2018 May,we established a clinical-grade human ES cell line first in Japan.
