ナノスケール拘束空間の工学 -構造制御を目指した界面場の積極利用- 化学工学の目的が「組成制御」から「構造制御」に向けて発展すべき現在,工学基礎としてまず求められるのは,[相互作用集団]×[外場]=[構造制御]の方程式であろう。つまり,相互作用を及ぼし合う要素─例えば分子やナノ粒子など―の集団が,ナノ空間や固体基板上などの外的ポテンシャルエネルギー場におかれたときに,どのように相転移や構造化を生じるのか,といった現象を,見出し,そして理解し,さらにはそのメカニズムを定量的にモデル化することが求められる。 当分野では,このような広義の「界面」における「外場」の積極利用に着目して,その効果が強調されるナノスケール空間を舞台に,その場特有の分子/イオン/ナノ粒子の挙動と構造について,分子・粒子シミュレーションと実験を併用した解析・モデル化に取り組んでおり,界面と構造の関わる化学工学基礎の体系化を目指すとともに,機能材創製と界面利用各種デバイスへの応用を視野に研究している。
