Dr. Kazuki SUGIMURA was graduated from Kyoto University (Graduate School of Agriculture), and received Ph. D (Agriculture) in 2015 from Kyoto University, in respect of "Comparative Studies on Miscibility and Intermolecular Interaction for Cellulose Ester Blends with Vinyl Copolymers" which was achieved under Prof. Yoshiyuki NISHIO. Before obtaining his Ph. D degree, he experienced JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Research Fellow (DC2) in Prof. NISHIO's Laboratory (2011–2013) and Assistant Technical Staff in Kyoto University (2013–2015). Then, he became Assistant Research Staff in Kyoto University (2015–2016) and, in 2016, he was employed as Assistant Professor in Kyoto University.

「バイオマス素材の生来的な特性を活用し,環境適合型の新規高機能性材料の構築ベースとして有効利用する」というコンセプトの元,セルロースやキチン・キトサン等の天然多糖類,ならびにそれらのエステル・エーテル誘導体の材料化学に取り組んでいる。特に,1)天然系多糖と異種成分(合成ポリマー・無機化合物)との微視的複合化による高機能材料化,および2)分子鎖・分子集合体の配向制御による異方性・液晶光学材料としての特性化,に関する基礎・応用研究を推進している。

My research interest has continually focused on "designing of high-functional materials based on natural resources, such as cellulosics and related polysaccharides, via novel derivatization and/or microcomposition with other chemical ingredients at the single-molecule level."
