2000年に東北大学理学部生物学科卒業。博士課程では、葉の光合成や窒素利用の視点から、植物の環境順化や適応について研究した。天然のCO2噴出地(CO2 spring)を利用した植物の高濃度CO2適応の研究はとてもユニークなものとして評価された。2005年に博士取得。光合成能力の多様性の背景は細胞壁などの構造的理由があると考え、2005から2年間、オランダのユトレヒト大学で細胞壁やバイオメカニックスの研究を行った。2007年に、オーストラリアのマッコーリー大学にリサーチフェローとして採用され、葉のバイオメカニックス研究をグローバルに展開した。大規模データ解析などのノウハウを生かし、2010年から九州大学で生物多様性の機能的な側面について研究を行った。2012年4月より京都大学助教。森林生態学、生物多様性科学、生理生態学、生産生態学、バイオメカニクスなど幅広い分野に興味をもって研究活動を行っている。

Overview of your research
(Japanese)
植物の環境応答、生理生態学、バイオメカニックス、多種共存機構、進化など、幅広い視点から、植物とそれを取り巻く環境について、研究している。特に植物多様性の創出機構や維持機構に強い興味がある。地球上には25万種以上の植物が存在すると言われ、様々な形や特性をもっている。私はそのような多様性の創出機構や維持機構を、根本的な生化学プロセスや物理的原理に基づいて、マクロ的な視点から理解したいと考えている。
