Molecular mechanisms underlying nutrient-dependent animal growth
Overview of the research

全ての生物は絶えず変化する環境因子にさらされており、その主な因子の一つは栄養である。モデル生物キイロショウジョウバエ (D. melanogaster) とその餌に着目し、成長に影響を与える栄養とその分子実体、栄養に対する個体の側の生体応答、そして、それらの背景にある分子メカニズムの解明に取り組んでいる。具体的には、ショウジョウバエ近縁種群の栄養応答の種間比較、ショウジョウバエ幼虫における体性感覚神経細胞の栄養依存的応答機構の解析、ショウジョウバエ幼虫の成長を支える共生微生物(酵母・細菌)の解析などを行っている。

Nutrition is a critical environmental determinant for animal growth. We have been investigating effects of nutrition, dietary responses, and underlying molecular mechanisms by Drosophila genetics, multi-omics, in vivo imaging, and interspecies comparative approaches. Our questions are the following: 1) How do Drosophila species adapt to diversified diets? 2) How does nutrition affect neuronal morphology? 3) What is the role of microbiota (yeasts and bacteria) as nutrient sources of Drosophila larvae?
