Neural mechanism for the control of dexterous and accurate hand and eye movements, and recovery after the partial injury of the related circuits in higher primates
Overview of the research

サルをモデルに用い、運動機能回復モデルについて、頚髄損傷により皮質脊髄路が切断されても、手指の巧緻運動は数週間で回復するが、その際、脊髄、大脳運動関連領域、さらには辺縁系などの様々な回路が機能回復に関与することを明らかにした。一方視覚認知機能の回復モデルについて、一次視覚野の損傷後、中脳の上丘から視床枕、そして高次視覚野に至る経路が視覚誘導性の行動制御の回復に関わることを明らかにした。

We are studying how dexterous hand movements recover with neuro-rehabilitative trainings by compensatory mechanisms implemented in the large scaled networks spanning the spinal cord, motor-related cortical areas and limbic structures after the spinal cord injury by using nonhuman primate models. We are also studying the neural mechanism for recovery of visually guided saccadic eye movements and other visual cognitive functions after lesion of the primary visual cortex by way of superior colliculus-pulvinar-higher visual cortical pathways.
