I have been in English language education for 20 years, most of them in Japan. My research interests lie in gender, social science, and theoretical linguistics. I am also constantly searching for ways to provide my students with the confidence and motivation to be successful English learners.

Overview of the research
(English)
Considering the very small number of female students at Kyoto University, I became interested in what kinds of experiences they have as a minority. I also wanted to discover what led them here and what encouragement or discouragement they may have encountered along the way. I hope the results of publicizing their experiences will help educators, and others involved in the lives of young women, to realize the impact of their words and actions.
