タンパク質の働きを利用して、生物内部の情報、特にエネルギー物質の分布と動きを高い空間分解能と時間分解能で可視化するための技術を開発している。生体内のエネルギー物質を「観る」ことにこだわり、環境の変化に応答して生物が自らのエネルギー代謝状態を適応させるしくみを明らかにしようとしている。
