Diversity, evolution and ecological role of eukaryotic viruses. Intra-species genomics diversity of eukaryotic phytoplanktons.
Overview of the research
(English)
Despite the importance of microbial communities for the functioning of ecosystems, little is known about their diversity and functioning and how it varies in time and space. In addition, mechanisms shaping this diversity and the interactions between the various members of these communities are poorly known. This lack of knowledge is especially true for the eukaryotic component and their associated viruses, both in marine and continental environments. In this context, I am interested in the diversity, evolution, and ecology of the eukaryotic component of planktonic communities and their viruses. I seek answers to questions such as: What is the within-species genetic diversity in planktonic organisms? What shapes this variation? What is the diversity of eukaryotic virus in oceans and what are their ecological roles?
