My research field is Comparative Cognition. I study about functions of mind by comparing abilities of primates, carnivora, rodents, and birds.
Overview of the research

ヒトを含め、多様な動物の心の働きを比較することにより、その進化のプロセスを考察することを研究目的としている。主に、他者の意図理解、欺きや協力行動、利他行動、高次感情をテーマとした研究を行ってきた。近年では、内的状態のモニタリングと行動の制御に関わるメタ認知能力をはじめ、ラベリングの機能、伴侶動物であるイヌと飼い主との関係に関する研究も行っている。

The purpose of my research is to consider the processes of mind evolution by comparing cognitive abilities of various animals including humans. Mainly, I have conducted research on the understanding of others' intentions, deception and cooperation, altruistic behavior, higher-order emotions, and third party evaluation. Recently, I have also worked on meta-cognition, which involved monitoring ones' own internal state and behavioral control, functions of labeling, and relationships between companion animals and their owners.
