酵素は、常温・常圧・中性付近のpHなど、生物に優しい条件で様々な化学反応を触媒する。この酵素について、結晶構造解析等によって得られた立体構造を基盤とした、機能の理解や改変に取り組んでいる。 現在では、従来よりも低分解能の結晶構造解析によって解離性置換基のプロトン化状態を解明する方法の開発を通した酵素反応機構の詳細な理解や、立体構造の類似性等を利用した、酵素機能の同定や改変にも取り組んでいる。

Enzymes catalyze various reactions under bio-friendly conditions such as moderate temperature, pressure and pH. I am working on understanding and modifying their functions based on three-their dimensional structures. For instance, I am developing a method to elucidate the protonation state of any substituents with relatively low resolution crystallographic analysis. The method will be applied to analyses of various enzymes in detail. I am also trying to identify/modify enzymatic functions utilizing similarities of their 3D-structures.
