1983年岐阜県立斐太高等学校卒業、1984年名古屋大学農学部食品工業化学科入学、1988年同学科卒業、1988年名古屋大学大学院農学研究科生化学制御専攻博士課程前期入学、1990年同専攻博士過程後期に進学、1990年10月退学。1992年11月より京都大学農学部助手となり現在に至る。京都大学赴任以来、一貫して、ウシ脂肪交雑形成機構の分子遺伝学的解析に取り組んできた。近年は、希少鳥類「トキ」および「コウノトリ」の国内集団における遺伝的多様性の解析を進めている。

Overview of your research
(Japanese)
和牛肉の特徴である「霜降り」にみられる筋肉内脂肪組織の形成機構を脂肪細胞分化関連遺伝子群(転写因子、細胞外マトリックスタンパク質およびマトリックスメタロプロテアーゼ)の発現と組織内での局在の解析を通して解明しようとしている。2010年からは特別天然記念物「トキ」および「コウノトリ」の免疫反応に係わる遺伝子領域である主要組織適合遺伝子複合体のゲノム構造の解明およびゲノムワイドのDNA多型マーカーの検出と遺伝的多様性評価法の開発にも取り組んでいる。
