Design of artificial DNA/RNA binding proteins towards regulation of cellular events
Overview of the research
(Japanese)
天然に存在する核酸結合タンパク質の構造モチーフを人為的に改変することにより、天然のタンパク質が成し得ないユニークな特性を持った核酸結合タンパク質や人工転写因子を創出することに取り組んでいます。これらの人工タンパク質創出の試みは、細胞機能や遺伝子治療に関する新しい理解や概念につながるのみならず、タンパク質の構造と機能の相関に関する詳細な情報を与えてくれるものと考えられます。

I am working on creating biomolecular tools acting on DNA or RNA to manipulate specific gene expression and to elucidate the mechanisms of biological events. Current themes include (1) Design of DNA or RNA binding proteins targeting specific sequences, (2) Control and/or detection of epigenetic modifications of DNA and RNA and (3) Elucidation of the mechanism of circadian clock.
