1980年愛媛県立大洲高等学校卒業、1980年京都大学農学部農林生物学科入学、1984年同学科卒業、1984年京都大学大学院農学研究科農林生物学専攻修士課程入学、1986年同修士課程修了。1986年京都大学大学院農学研究科農林生物学専攻博士後期課程進学、1988年同博士後期課程中途退学。1988年より京都大学助手、講師。2000年より京都大学農学研究科助教授、准教授、現在に至る。研究は一貫して、モデル植物RNAウイルスであるブロモウイルスの増殖機構および宿主特異性決定機構の研究。趣味はテニス。

ブロモウイルスをモデルとし、ウイルスー植物間にみられる感染特異性を研究している。テーマは、(1)ウイルスの移行に関与する宿主植物因子、(2)シロイヌナズナにおけるブロモウイルスの感染特異性、(3)SBLV感染シロイヌナズナにおける病徴発現機構、および(4)イネ品種とBMV系統間における特異性に関する研究であり、これらの現象の背景にあるウイルス因子と植物因子の同定およびその構造・機能解析を進めている。

I have studied mechanisms of host specificity between plants and viruses using bromoviruses such as Brome mosaic virus (BMV) and Spring beauty latent virus (SBLV) as models. Research is focused on (1) identification of plant factors involved in bromovirus movement, (2) host specificity between bromoviruses and Arabidopsis thaliana, (3) mechanisms of symptom development upon infection with SBLV, and (4) infection specificity between BMV strains and rice cultivars. We have identified virus factors and plant factors involved in these phenomena and analysed structures and functions of the identified factors.
