藤渕航(京都大学iPS細胞研究所教授)1991年広島大学理学部卒業、同年京都大学理学研究科修士課程入学、1995年京都大学化学研究所助手、1998年論文博士(理学)。1999年に渡米し、米国立衛生研究所(NIH)の客員研究員、米連邦政府正職員(スタッフサイエンティスト)を経て、2003年に帰国し、独立行政法人産業技術総合研究所研究員として就任。2007年同生命情報工学研究センター細胞機能設計チーム長として独立。2012年から現職。

Professor Wataru Fujibuchi. In 1991, after graduating from Faculty of Science Hiroshima University, entered master’s program at Kyoto University Graduate School of Science. In 1995 appointed Research Associate at Kyoto University Institute for Chemical Research, and in 1998 awarded a science Ph.D. by dissertation. From 1999 spent periods in the United States as Visiting Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health and staff scientist for the US federal government. Returned to Japan in 2003 and became Researcher at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. In 2007 was appointed Leader of the Cell Function Design Team at the institute’s Computational Biology Research Center. Took up current position in 2012.

Overview of the research

生命情報工学や生物物理学などの実験及び理論に基づいて、iPS細胞から各種分化細胞を適切に誘導するための羅針盤となる物理・数理法則の導出を行うことを目標としている。そのため、本研究室では1つの細胞種の分化を追うことはせずに全ての細胞種の横断的解析を行い、自然界に存在する体細胞を徹底的に調べ上げて「正しい細胞とは何か」を導き出すための細胞の規則表を作成することを目指している。これを実現するために、全ヒト細胞についてノイズの少ないシングルセルレベルでのトランスクリプトーム及びエピゲノムデータを収集し、異なった体細胞グループについて系統解析を行っている。具体的な研究項目は、 ・幹細胞・細胞分化の時空間情報解析とその基礎理論の構築 ・1 細胞解析による iPS 細胞からの 3D 組織設計の研究 ・ヒト細胞データベースの開発とその医療応用の研究 ・人工知能・機械学習などを用いた細胞医療用支援システムの開発 である。

Based on the experiments and theories of bioinformatics, biophysics, etc., we pursue the derivation of physical or mathematical rules serving as a compass to properly induce a variety of cell types from iPS cells. To achieve this goal, our laboratory do not pursue the differentiation of just one type of cells but perform longitudinal analysis of whole types of cells, and extensively research on somatic cells that exist in nature, developing a cell rule table for answering "What are the correct cells." To actualize this, we collect single-cell transcriptome and epigenome data of whole types of human cells with low noise, and perform lineage analysis on different somatic cell groups. More specific topics are: •Spatiotemporal information analysis of stem cells and cell differentiations to construct a basic theory for it. •Study of a 3D tissue design from iPS cells by single-cell analysis. •Development of a human cell database and study of its medical applications. •Development of a cell therapy supporting system with artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc.
