1958年8月1日。1981年3月 京都大学農学部農学科卒業、滋賀県立短期大学農学科助手(作物学研究室)、滋賀県立大学環境科学部助手(生物資源管理学科)、京都大学農学研究科講師、助教授をへて、2006年4月同教授。1998年および1992年にフロリダ大学にて研修員。1997年3月 博士(農学)を京都大学より取得。主に、ダイズの個体群生産機能の解析、水稲の多収生育相および窒素利用効率の解析を行ってきた。

ダイズの収量ポテンシャルを制限している植物体要因ならびに生産変動に関わる環境要因を解明するために、日米品種の間にみられる生産性の格差に着目した個葉光合成能の支配形質の同定と遺伝要因の解明、気温の上昇がダイズの生育と子実生長に及ぼす量的影響に関する温度勾配型チャンバーを用いた群落レベルでの実験を行い、さらに、気象変動とくに水環境変動がダイズ生産に及ぼす影響に関するモデル解析と、それらの影響の評価モデルの開発を行っている。
