I am conducting research on Seismology on viewpoint from Science. As for education, one of my goals is to cultivate abilities of my graduate students during collaboration with international colleagues. Furthermore, I’m usually conscious of multidisciplinary collaboration on my field, and progressing my results toward social application and implementation.

地震学・測地学的手法を用いて沈み込み帯などで発生する巨大地震に関する研究を行っています。特に巨大地震とその周辺で発生するスロー地震の関係に興味を持っています。主な研究対象地域は、日本海溝、南海トラフおよびニュージーランド北島東方沖のヒクランギ沈み込み帯です。主に海底観測および観測データに基づく解析を行っています。また、スロー地震発生域の掘削計画に関係した研究や地震波干渉法を用いた地下のイメージングに関する研究も進めています。

I am interested in the Geophysical study of slow earthquake and its relation to occurrences of megathrust earthquakes and tsunami. My ongoing projects include work in the Japan Trench, the Nankai Trough, Japan and the Hikurangi Margin, New Zealand.  Much of the work I do includes the deployment of autonomous ocean bottom instruments, such as seismometers and pressure recorders, by using research vessels. I have recently interested in ocean drilling project to understand physical processes of slow earthquakes. I am also interested in seismic interferometry to image the crust and upper mantle of the Earth.
