リンパ球の分化や維持に重要なインターロイキン7というサイトカインを中心にして、免疫学の分野で研究をしている。免疫系細胞におけるIL-7レセプターの分化シグナル、IL-7レセプター発現の制御機構とその機能、IL-7およびIL-15産生細胞の可視化と局所機能などのテーマで研究を行っている。教育に関しては、医学部、理学部、薬学部の講義に携わるとともに、研究室の大学院生との共同研究の中で、主体的な研究能力を身につけさせることを目指している。

I am conducting research in the field of immunology, in relation to interleukin-7, a cytokine important for development and maintenance of lymphocytes. As for undergraduate education, I am involved in lectures in Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. As for graduate education, one of my goals is to encourage graduate students to acquire the scientific knowledge and skills important for independent researchers.

Overview of the research

これまで、胎児期と成体期の造血幹細胞でリンパ球に分化する能力が異なっていること、インターロイキン7というサイトカインがリンパ球抗原受容体遺伝子のDNA組換えを誘導することを明らかにしてきた。この流れを受け、現在、インターロイキン7による免疫系の構築と免疫応答の制御機構について研究をおこなっている。

I have found that fetal and adult hematopoietic stem cells have different developmental potential to differentiate into lymphocytes. I have also demonstrated that interleukin-7 (IL-7) controls DNA recombination of lymphocyte antigen receptor genes by changing chromatin structures. Based on these findings, I am now pursuing research on development of the immune system and regulation of immune responses by IL-7.
