これまで森林構造、その発達、および生態系炭素動態様式の記述と理解を進める研究を行ってきた。主にシベリアとカナダの亜寒帯林を対象とする研究を進める中で、シベリア生態系を対象とした炭素動態研究プロジェクトに関わったてきた。国際的な研究グループを組織した共同研究を行っており、現在、亜寒帯林バイオームの構造と機能の時空間変動解析プロジェクトが発展しつつある。
