大気科学が専門です.これまでは大気の最も基本的な鼓動とも云える日周期変動を対象に,そのグローバルな動態とメカニズムを明らかにすべく,データ解析・大気力学理論・数値シミュレーションを駆使して研究してきました.一方,歴史学との融合研究にも興味があり,毎週有志の集まりで古文書を読んでいます.今後は学生さんや教員の皆様との相互作用を楽しみつつ,新しい分野を開拓していきたいと考えています.また,今年から新たに教育に携わっています.教えることの難しさを痛感しながらも,自分自身もう一度基礎から学び直す良い機会になっています.

Overview of the research

地球大気は様々な周期で変動していますが,その最も基本とも云える日周期サイクルの現象を対象に研究してきました.地上の日周期サイクル(e.g.,気温は日中に最高,明け方に最低)は良く知られていますが,一方上空ではどうなのか?地上の日周期と上空の日周期はどのように繋がっているのか?そもそも日周期の現象は,地球の気象・気候システムの形成・維持にどのような役割を果たしているのか?このような問いに答えるべく,データ解析・大気力学理論・数値シミュレーションを複合的に用いて研究を行っています.今後は,日周期に拘泥せず,大気システムを包括的に理解すべく研究対象を広げていく所存です.一方で,学際研究にも興味があります.特に歴史学との融合研究に興味があり,古地震研究会に参加して自然災害関連の古文書を読んでいます.過去(近代気象観測以前)に記録された極端気象現象の発生メカニズムや,本邦の気象学(知識)発展の歴史的系譜を知りたいと思っています.最近では大気境界層の観測にも興味を持っています.
