Overview of the research

内在性レトロウイルスは哺乳類ゲノムの30-50%を占めるが、発生初期にダイナミックに発現が上がり、その後急速に抑制される。レトロウイルス配列のDNAメチル化やヒストンのメチル化は分化・発生過程で複合的に制御されており、その一端を明らかにしたいと思っている。

Histone posttranslational modifications play crucial roles in epigenetic regulation of chromatin structure and function. H3K9me3 is required for the DNA methylation-independent retrovirus silencing in murine ES cells. In non-embryonic cells, however, H3K9me3 is not always necessary for prohibiting retrovirus from derepression.
